Cinemas
Eye has four comfortable cinemas where visitors can enjoy the latest art house films and the finest restored classics. There are retrospectives, lectures, Q & As, performances with live music and festivals to visit.
To see and experience
On the ground floor is the permanent Eye presentation with film devices that mark important moments in the history of cinema. Some of the highlights are the Mitchell - a 35mm camera with which many major Hollywood films have been recorded -, a mutoscope showing Chaplin's The Waiter, a magic lantern and the Kinamo, a very compact camera with which film pioneer Joris Ivens filmed the famous documentary De Brug. Together they show the quest of passionate inventors to record moving images.
The presentation also takes you along the 360 ° - a space in which you are surrounded by film fragments from the collection, the Pods -mini-cinemas with three-seater sofa- and along interactive installations such as the Flipbook and the Green Screen, where you can see a so-called 'thumb cinema'. making and figures in a film scene.
More interactive replicas of film devices can be found throughout Eye. By turning and watching yourself, it becomes clear which techniques and optical tricks make the magic of film possible.
There are listening couches in Eye: dive into the world of some famous film classics while enjoying the cinematic view. One floor higher, changing set photos from films such as Eyes Wide Shut (Stanley Kubrick, 1999) and Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, 1979) can be seen on seven monitors.
A visit to the Eye Filmmuseum is fun for all ages.
