CONCERTS & GIGS

Editor’s Pick: FKA Twigs

If you like: Oklou, Caroline Polachek

Ask anyone who’s been to see FKA Twigs and you’ll be met with rave reviews. An artist who brings artistry to her music and performances, the Twigs has established herself as one of the industry’s most conceptual and creative singers. Her latest album EUSEXUA is a testament to that - an ode to dance, discovery and euphoria. Expect a transcendental evening at Ziggo Dome.

Pink Pantheress

If you like: Zara Larsson, Charli XCX

One of Gen Z’s breakout stars and a global hitmaker thanks to a recent Olympic debut and Zara Larsson collaboration, Pink Pantheress has gone from making music on TikTok to worldwide fame. Often sampling 90s and 2000s beats, she pairs light, rhythmic, and upbeat production with the vocal cadences of Lily Allen and Kate Nash for addictive hyperpop. Her second mixtape, Fancy That, earned her critical acclaim with two Grammy nominations. Catch her when she’s not stateside this June.

Harry Styles + Robyn

If you like: Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift

Harry Styles caps off the end of his Amsterdam residency the first week of June, with Swedish pop icon Robyn as a very special guest (and it’s worth buying a ticket alone just for this). Eclectic and colourful, the onus is on feel-good fun and a few tongue-in-cheek performances. If you're visiting especially for the show, check out this special pass that gives concertgoers access to a number of Amsterdam's best attractions and museums.

Snail Mail

If you like: Soccer Mommy, boygenius

Maryland-hailing Indie rocker Snail Mail lands in Paradiso this June off the back of Ricochet, her first album in five years that critics say is her strongest yet. We’ll let you be the judges, but for reverb-heavy shoegaze, you won’t be disappointed.

Neo soul and jazzy vocals, Celeste knows how to make melancholy sound good. The recipient of much-deserved critical acclaim, her smoky sound is for those sultry summer nights when the heat lingers even after the sun goes down. She’s got two nights – make it a must that you make one of them.

Jazz at H’ART Museum

While jazz usually lends itself to cosy, dimly-lit bars, Amsterdam’s Plantage neighbourhood proves it’s just as special in alfresco settings. Organised by H’ART Museum and in collaboration with Conservatorium van Amsterdam, this summer series takes place on Sundays in the museum’s sun-dappled courtyard, where intimate jazz performances gently ease you into the late summer nights.

Returning to its original one-day format, there’s just as much packed in across its many stages: Kalinichta, Latinichta, Rosario, and Secreto, plus an extended Queer Market. Dress for the summer and the tropics, for sun-kissed dancing and music that spans Latin America and the Balkans. If you’re not ready to say goodbye, drop by Parallel in Noord for the official afterparty: Tropikali by Night.

909 festival

This techno festival, named after the t-r 909 audio machine – a seminal piece of DJ equipment – returns to the Amsterdamse Bos from 6-7 June. This event prides itself on a stripped-back aesthetic with its sole focus on the music. Around 56 artists will perform over two days as attendees dance in a clearing in the forest, reacquainting themselves with the roots of festival culture and perhaps a stray tree root or two.

A brand new concert festival dedicated entirely to music that exists on the fringes of classical music. Organised by Het Concertgebouw, this six-day showcase spotlights Black composers from Europe, America and Africa who’ve helped shape classical music but have been underrepresented in concert halls.
