In 1640-1641 Johannes Verspronck (1601/03-1662) painted the portraits of a young girl and her parents.
The three remained together for a long time, but eventually the parents ended up in the Rijksmuseum Twenthe and the daughter in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. There, "the girl in blue," as she is affectionately known, became a crowd-pleaser.
For the first time in nearly 50 years, the portraits of father, mother, and daughter are now reunited in Haarlem, the city where they were painted. Professor Frans Grijzenhout, known from the TV program Kunstraadsels (Art Riddles), searched long and hard for the identity of the girl and her parents.
