Hyphen Dash, a leading fusion band from Kyiv, Ukraine, presents an innovative mix of hip-hop, jazz, rock, and electronica. Their music, born amidst challenging times, sounds urgent and innovative. Last year, the band was awarded the Grand Prix of the first Ukrainian Jazz Prize, a recognition of their unique sound.

This performance features a special collaboration with Diana Sidibé, the Afro-Ukrainian saxophonist based in Amsterdam. Together, they create a dynamic live experience that transcends genre boundaries. Hyphen Dash draws inspiration from artists such as Christian Scott, Todd Rundgren, The Mars Volta, and Robert Glasper, resulting in a groundbreaking performance.

An impressive musical journey

The story of Hyphen Dash is remarkable. Drummer Myshko Birchenko even raised money for the army by recording music in a basement in Kramatorsk, a project that resulted in the album Basement 626. The band, consisting of Polina Maiboroda (keyboards), Dmytro Startsev (keyboards/fx), Yevhen Puhachov (guitar/bass), and Myshko Birchenko (drums), has already released three albums in 2025. Several more albums are being released this year as well. Hyphen Dash previously toured Europe and performed at Eurosonic Noorderslag 2026. This concert is made possible in part by Europe Jazz Network, as part of the EJN Awards 2026.
