Music from the East and the West
In this recital, soprano Madeline Saputra and pianist/violinist Apollon Kalamenios connect Western art songs with Indonesian keroncong. Works by composers such as Alban Berg, Aaron Copland, and Kaija Saariaho are performed alongside pieces by Indonesian masters like Poniman. The result is a layered program that connects cultures and eras.
Inspired by Raden Adjeng Kartini
The program is inspired by the letters of Raden Adjeng Kartini (1879–1904), a Javanese aristocrat and pioneer of women's rights. She dedicated herself to education for girls. Her words form the common thread running through the concert: a musical journey full of memory, struggle, and hope.
A duo with a rich background
Madeline and Apollon have been working intensively together on song repertoire in the Netherlands and Indonesia for over a year. Both received coaching from musicians such as Roberta Alexander, Claron McFadden, and Pierre Mak. Since 2025, they have been part of an association for young musicians. The duo won several prizes in 2025 and was named in the NRC as one of the rising stars of 2026.
