World premiere of a solo cello composition
Composer and Artist in Residence Arjan Linker wrote Patdeep after years of studying North Indian classical music. Melody and improvisation are central to this musical tradition. This is reflected in the composition: the music develops from melodic lines and subtle pitch bends, without accompaniment or harmonic support. Cellist Stefano Bruno performs the world premiere of this work.
A program between old and new
The concert places Patdeep alongside excerpts from Bach's Fourth Cello Suite and works by contemporary composers such as Fausto Romitelli, Lucien Renette, and Roberto Pisicchio. This creates a program that connects centuries of music history.
Cellist Stefano Bruno
Stefano Bruno won prizes at the Cello Biennial Competition and the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours, among others. In 2022, he made his debut in the Small and Main Halls of the Concertgebouw, where he performed Elgar's Cello Concerto under the direction of Ed Spanjaard.
Botanical Garden as a backdrop
The concert takes place at the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, a special green space in the heart of the city. This concert is part of the Artist in Residence series of the Grachtenfestival 2026, made possible in part by Buma Cultuur. Are you interested? Use the link for tickets.
