On the terrace of the Muziekgebouw
You can view it as a vast community that is constantly in motion. With this in mind, Eco Acoustics guides participants through a physical, sensory listening experience in which various ways of connecting take center stage: with the environment and with each other.
We begin at sunrise at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, where we gather and board a boat for a silent journey across the water. Afterwards, we continue the route on foot along the banks of the IJ. Through various listening exercises, we attune ourselves to the water, to the water element within ourselves, and to the shared soundscape. The session includes elements from Deep Listening, Qi Gong, and listening to the underwater world with hydrophones, among others. We conclude with a shared breakfast.
Listening with the IJ is made possible in part by Muziekgebouw Productiehuis.
Eco Acoustics
Stichting Eco Acoustics is an Amsterdam-based platform that explores listening as a shared ecological and social practice. Through sound walks, installations, and participatory formats, it approaches environments as living entities where human and non-human perspectives converge. The work departs from collective listening practices, inspired by Deep Listening, and encourages forms of attention that are bodily, inclusive, and open.
Projects emerge in co-creation with participants and specific locations, combining field recordings, shared experiences, and reflection. The foundation was initiated by artists Maaike van der Linde and Dario Calderone. Their background in music, composition, and socially engaged art forms the basis for Eco Acoustics as a place where artistic practice, ecological awareness, and collective experience come together.
