Echoes of Versailles
The ensemble Amber Music Box presents their new program Echos de Versailles. This program is inspired by the sound world of the French court in the early 18th century, where nuance, gestures, and color held as much significance as melody. The ensemble plays on historical instruments tuned to A = 392Hz, a pitch closely associated with French musical practice of that era. This lower tuning lends a distinctive depth and softness to the sound, particularly in the combination of traverso, Baroque oboe, viola da gamba, and theorbe.
Performers:
Katja Pitelina — traverso
Olga Kuznetcova — baroque oboe
Takeshi Sudo - viola da gamba
Simon Linné — theorbe
