ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo

ARTIS is an iconic location in the heart of Amsterdam, where learning about and experiencing nature have been the central focus since 1838. As one of the five oldest zoos in the world, ARTIS is a unique destination where visitors can experience the rich diversity of nature. Historic ARTIS Zoo includes the zoo itself, the botanical garden and Planetarium, as well as ARTIS-Micropia, which inspires visitors by uncovering the invisible world of microbes, and ARTIS-Groote Museum, which reveals the intimate connection between humans and nature.

A party at the Planetarium, a congress in the monumental Royal Hall or a meeting in the Founders Room. Or perhaps have ARTIS-Park entirely to yourselves for one night? Both small and large groups are welcome at ARTIS, at any time and in any season.

Sustainability

ARTIS sets a good example by contributing to a greener and more liveable world and has set itself the goal of maximising its positive environmental impact. In 2030, the two million visitors will find themselves in a natural park that is completely climate-positive, does not use any fossil fuels and recycles all waste flows.

To achieve this, ARTIS collaborates with a range of parties including municipal and national authorities, academic institutions, partner businesses and the local community, to improve all facets of sustainability while keeping the environment liveable.

ARTIS wants to inspire and activate its visitors to make sustainable choices in what they eat. That is why the foods and drinks in the public restaurants at ARTIS have been completely vegetarian since the beginning of 2022. For events ARTIS also strives to inspire your guests with mainly vegetarian and sustainable options!

Accessibility

Wheelchair users

The ARTIS grounds are mostly wheelchair accessible, with the exception of the North Pavilion. The car park has five disabled parking spaces.

Accessible toilets

ARTIS has accessible toilets at all event locations and at several locations inside ARTIS-Park, Micropia and Groote Museum.

Children and babies

All public toilets are equipped with baby changing stations, at event locations this might not always be the case, but ARTIS is happy to assist. There is a breastfeeding room available.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome during events. A special route through ARTIS-Park for visitors with a service dog was designed in cooperation with the Dutch service dog user foundation. This route respects the safety of both service dogs and the animals at ARTIS. Please note that access is only granted to service dogs that have had all the required vaccinations.
